THE RIVERBOATS HAVE LANDED



Here are a couple of photos of some unique architecture in New Orleans (located in the area of the devastated lower 9th ward. As it turns out paradoxically, homes nearest the river were the safest and fared the best). Note the pagoda style!!

These 2 separate beauties are located just beyond the Mississippi River right off the levee, but are still plenty tall enough to allow a view of the river. The interesting aspect about them is that they were, as I was told, built by steamboat captains as replicas of their actual captains quarters lodged on the top of their steamboats. The fact that their height affords visibility of the river, it's kind of like taking your job home with you. These guys are paid huge $$$ (850K/yr) so I guess they must really love
their jobs.
