Christmas In New Orleans

Snowed way down yonder here in New Orleans a few days ago - that's a pic of the home we're working on - a southern antebellum covered with the "white stuff" (as a reporter endlessly referred to it). Of course this is an anomaly here in the deep south - one generally expected to occur about every 14 years or so.

Having lived in the Great North East for the largest part of my life, I can say that the likelihood of snow up there on Christmas is statistically, from my experience, very small. The last time I remember experiencing it snowing on Christmas up north was back in the '50's and it wasnt until 2004 that I that I got to re-emerge myself in it's fun and glory.

Well if you couple the unlikelihood of snow on Christmas anywhere with the highly unusual occurence of just even snow in the south, then you can understand what an awesome spectacle it must have been for New Orleanians too, to share the experience, in 2004, of the joy of a white Christmas. Almost amazing. I can certainly guarantee I will never see it repeat in my lifetime.

Coincidentally, the following August brought about one of the greatest disasters to my dear New Orleans - Katrina.

I tell people now that if it ever DOES happen to snow on Christmas, they will surely find me, come june 1st, headin' for the hills !!! (the start of hurricane season)
