WHERE'S ANDY GONNA END UP?
I dont watch a lot of TV. I've got these damnable blogs to write (the big bucks y'know). TV just interferes too much with my free time. But when I've found a show that I do enjoy, and which I feel is well produced and which maintains real story lines, I've remained damned loyal. Shows like (from the 80's):
Joanie Loves Chachi, Dallas, and of course, Knight Rider, the elite of intellectuavision....
Gasp! Just kidding.
Contrarily, I felt shows like The Tracey Ullman Show, Black Adder, Soap, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Fraggle Rock (in the morning with my daughter) really did know how to keep things moving.
Todays TV finds me glued to the tube only occasionally for the Law and Order shows, Vincent Donofrio in whatever CSI?? SVU?? show it is that he's in (FEEL that real loyalty here?!?!) American Idol (I'm a musician fer crissakes) and NYPD Blue.
Until tonight.
The interesting factor in having a "favorite" show is that if you miss it tonight, hey, the next show'll be on next week.
Except of course for American Idol which I believe may finally run its course this season when people realize that it's not actually a show about winners - it' a show about the tedious, painful decimation of tens of thousands of "losers". There can only be 1 winner, right? All the rest get to pack up and go bye-byes as 'also rans' and sing the last song they sang on the show - thats right, the song which was so bad people voted them the hell off!! Thats so funny. How the hell do you pick yourself up knowing 1. you're a loser and then 2. they politely ask you to re-visit the experience which has just trashed the highest hopes and dreams you've ever imagined you could expeience. Hmmmmm?!!? sounds like the music business. Nice sado/masochistic show.
But anyway, as far as being secure about being able to tune in next week and catch your favorite show's next episode, NYPD Blue screwed me good tonight. They ended the freakin show. Scipiwicz (sp) and the rest of the crew are kaput forever and the reliance I had in being able to just clik on the remote and reconnect with my friends at the 15th district is suddenly over.
Now I have a couple of confessions. 1. I really did like this show - the characters came across as believable and I'll miss it and 2. I had developed such a reliance on it, since it has been going strong for 12 freakin years, that maybe I had become a little TOO secure on the show's being there again next week that I might have forgotten to watch it more than once or twice a season for about the last 5 or 6 years.
Geez, I hope I didnt let it fizzle out because I didnt watch the commercials....
It did end well though, with Andy fightin' city hall - puttin his job on the line, backin his guys up as the new Sarge. Right in character. We'll miss you buddy - but fortunately we wont have to miss you too much - you're already in syndication on channel 11 .
